The process will establish a vision for the community for both the near and long term. The process will also determine practical and implementable strategies to ensure the City meets its full potential.

Delaware Together is an effort to create a new city-wide plan for Delaware that reflects community ideas and insights for the future. The Comprehensive Plan recognizes that Delaware is a highly desirable place to live, both rooted in strong traditions and welcoming of change. Delaware is a dynamic community that has benefited from many assets including an authentic downtown, well-established neighborhoods and more. In recent decades, the City has experienced significant population increase and must now answer key questions about where and how it should grow.

Schedule

Delaware Together began in the spring of 2018 and will commence in the summer of 2019. A series of interactive workshops will be held in different locations throughout the City to gather ideas and insight.

Why should you participate?

Now is the time. In light of the dynamic nature of the community, the planning process aims to take action on how to shape growth and change.

Everyone’s voice will be heard. Your input will help make Delaware be the best place that it can be to live, work, play and invest.

We’re in this together. By joining forces, we can unite to ensure that Delaware will thrive for future generations.

You are the expert. No one knows the community like those who live or work here.

Who is involved?

City Staff

Coordination. City staff will support and help to coordinate the work of all other groups and will provide local knowledge and expertise to each element of the Plan.

Public

Input and feedback. Widespread public involvement is vital to Delaware Together’s success. In-person workshops held in different locations throughout the City and online surveys will offer a variety of ways for the community to give input throughout the process.

Elected Officials

Advice and Adoption. Elected officials will be updated throughout the process and the final Plan will be formally adopted by Planning Commission and City Council, who will have a central role in its implementation.

Steering Committee

Process and outreach. A citizen steering committee will help guide the public process and the Plan’s recommendations. Members were selected to reflect the City’s diverse backgrounds and interests in an open application process. City staff are working closely with a planning consulting team to facilitate the steering committee’s work, convene public workshops, conduct technical work and draft the Plan.

Stakeholders

Targeted input. Various stakeholder groups will be consulted to inform specific aspects of the Plan. These groups include business leaders, civic leagues, real estate professionals and developers, education professionals, students, young professionals and industry representatives among others.

Consultants

Process leadership, expertise. A consultant team led by Planning NEXT will facilitate the process and share experience from other successful communities in Ohio and nationwide.
